Manco Capac (Powerful Chief) is a Peruvian film, and the country’s selection for the 2022 Academy Awards under the International Feature Film category. It tells the story of Elisban, a man from a southern rural region who arrives to the city of Puno with the promise of finding work. Stranded and penniless, Elisban faces difficulty trying to navigate this urban environment, and experiences the disdain from city residents who are apathetic to his plight. The film explores themes of alienation, solitude, and even the Peruvian identity.
