Create Natural Plant Dyes & Design Your Own Dye Samples

Saturday, July 12, 2025

11:00 a.m.1:00 p.m.

Discover the art of natural dyeing using plants! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to extract color from common garden plants, kitchen scraps, and foraged materials to create plant-based dyes. We’ll explore basic techniques and experiment with color. Participants will take home their fabric dye samples—perfect for future creative projects or to enjoy the beauty of nature’s palette. No experience necessary. All materials provided, but feel free to bring small natural items or textiles you’d like to experiment with.

NYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
