Volunteer Workday: Edgecombe Avenue Garden Park Sanctuary
Saturday, July 12, 2025
9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
GreenThumb community gardens are developed, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteers who critically upkeep community gardens as public green spaces.
Activated in 1996 by neighbors dedicated to creating a calming space to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature in the community, Edgecombe Avenue Garden Park Sanctuary is excited to welcome neighbors and potential new members to help expand and beautify the garden.
Join us for a hands-on volunteer day as we build raised beds to help bring this vision to life. This is a great opportunity to learn about joining a community garden and basic carpentry skills. Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note: Some tasks may involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending, squatting, and moving.

Groups of 10 or more can sign up by contacting the volunteer coordinator at Kyleen.Sanchez@parks.nyc.gov.
This event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
