Brady's Pond Park Hiking Trails

Brady's Pond Park hiking trails

Brady's Pond Park iis a small, forested park located on the northeast shore of the 15-acre Brady’s Pond. The pond and surrounding area have a rich history. Over the last 200 years, the land has had uses as varied as ice harvesting, racing, and filming of silent movies. Today, the pond is used and cared for by the Cameron Lake Club, though it still faces challenges due to the natural buildup of organic matter as the lake ages. The slow release of this water from a small dam, or weir, reduces flood risk for the neighborhood.

Yellow Trail: This short out and back trail is 0.35 miles and begins at the access point on Hylan Boulevard south of the Staten Island Expressway. After a steep descent towards the pond, the trail levels out and turns south towards the pond. When the trail begins to follow the pond shore, it curves northward. As you walk along the side of the pond, you may be lucky enough to see waterfowl, turtles, bass, catfish, carp, perch, or sunfish. The trail continues until it reaches the foot of the hill below Narrows Road South. At this point, turn back and retrace your steps to back to Hylan Boulevard.

Pond Overlook

This spot on the shore of Brady's Pond provides a clear view over the water. It's a great location to look for the waterfowl that live on the pond's banks such as herons, egrets and cormorants, as well as geese, swans, mallards, and ruddy ducks. The water is kept clear by an aeration system installed in 2019, which keeps the pond healthy and free of harmful algal blooms. Across the pond, you can see the Cameron Lake Club, which owns the pond itself, cares for its waters, and provides its members with the ability to swim and recreate on the lake safely.
