Queens Jazz Trail Concert: Mingus Big Band

Thursday, August 28, 2025

7:00 p.m.8:00 p.m.

Experience the vibrant legacy of jazz in the heart of Queens this summer! Inspired by the iconic Queens Jazz Trail Map, this free concert series brings the borough’s rich jazz history to life in beautiful community parks—where legends like Armstrong, Coltrane, Fitzgerald, and more once called home.

Mingus Big Band celebrates the music of legendary bassist and composer Charles Mingus with electrifying performances by top-tier jazz musicians. Founded by Sue Mingus in 1991, the 14-piece ensemble builds on Mingus’ legacy with dynamic new arrangements that honor his vision for a larger band format. A New York institution for over three decades, the band has earned 12 albums, multiple Grammy nominations, and a win in 2011. Their latest release, The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions Vol. 2, dropped in 2024 on Candid Records.
